Sat in the Back Garden

Sat in the Back Garden

My wife loves the swing, 'jhoola', its called in Hindi. Believe me, it was a great compromise on her part to put the jhoola in the garden instead inside the house. If you had been to Gujarat, you would have noticed that they have a swing in the middle of the living room. They are ornately decorated, with beautiful cushions laid on them. My only problem with that is when you take first sip of the lovely Gujrati masala chai, you would like that steady backrest to relish the heavenly nectar. Of course you cant say the same thing about beer, as it is not allowed in Gujrat. Nonetheless, you get the drift.
Believe me, it looks beautiful in the garden. It is a lovely place to sit on a cool Sunday summer evening, licking on a ice cream lolly. Of course, having tea is a bit of a trouble, as I have explained before, which is not an issue in summer. The swing gives the best vantage point to our garden, which is a like a naughty child, absolutely adorable and bit unruly, unkempt, number of unnamed trees, a fruit patch, and a vegetable patch. It gives you a feel of house full of adorably naughty children, messily enchanting..When my daughter is at home, the lovely music from her collection filters through the cacophony of the birds. And, then there is the beautiful Apple trees on the corner. There are actually two apple trees, perfectly positioned for a hammock to be tied in. The hammock is my daughters resting place in the summers.  One of the tree is laden with cooking apples, and the ground below is covered with many half eaten apples. It is shocking to see the quantity of these wasted apples when we have to clean them up along with other garden waste.
The apple tree in our garden is a big attraction amongst our family and friends. Apart of the lovely fruits it bears and providing the bulwark for the hammock for our daughter and son, and their friends, it has a funny anecdote connected with it. It is suppose to increase fertility. One of our close friend climbed the tree and few months later she was expecting their second baby after 16 years. So well proof enough of the potency of the tree. We had such big laugh about it.
Keeping the various efficacies aside, the tree is lovely. Specially in the spring when the tree is full of new leaves, and the soft pink flowers cover the top. It is a beautiful vista from the the swing.
When the winter sets in, the trees will shed the leaves. Its just like the house, when the children are off to school, it descends into a din of silence, waiting for them to come back and make it alive again, just like the spring in the garden.
